First Congregational United Church of Christ in Sarasota and the Florida Conference will sponsor a workshop by acclaimed storyteller Valerie Tutson Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at First Congregational UCC, 1031 S. Euclid Ave., Sarasota, FL 34237.
During the workshop, "Storytelling as a Spiritual Practice," Valerie will invite participants to explore and experience the wonder of stories — our own and others.
"I tell stories from around the world with an emphasis on black traditions," Tutson says. "My stories include African folktales, both researched and gathered on my trips to west and south Africa, African American History, including underground railroad and blacks during the revolutionary period and the civil rights movement. I tell personal stories of growing up bi-racial, and retell Bible stories in a unique style."
Admission is free, and lunch will be served. However, registration is required, and the registration deadline is Jan. 31. A free will offering will take place at the end of the workshop to defray costs.
Valerie also will share in worship at the First Congregational UCC from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Feb. 4, in celebration of Black History Month. For more information, you may call the church at (941) 953-7044. -> Register today! ->
